Activists And Journalists Explore Role Of Media In Ending Child Marriage
WASHINGTON, Oct. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In advance of International Day of the Girl, girls' rights activists and journalists will explore new and emerging trends in media coverage of child marriage—a practice that impacts 15 million girls every year.
From mainstream news programs to feature films to social media, public discourse on child marriage is at an all-time high. Yet, has all this attention resulted in action on the ground? Are girls being presented as victims or agents of change? Are there stories that need to be told, but aren't?
On October 7, three panel discussions will explore these questions and more, with case studies from the U.S., India, Malawi, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, and beyond.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 7, 1:00-4:00 PM; Reception to follow.
