Addiction Services Now Offered by Eastern Shore Psychological Services (ESPS)
ESPS Broadens its Commitment to Maryland's Eastern Shore
SALISBURY, Md., Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Eastern Shore Psychological Services (ESPS) announced today that it has added drug and alcohol addiction treatment to its expanding menu of services to better serve the lower, mid, and upper regions of the Eastern Shore. Addiction is a severe and growing problem, and last year in Maryland alone, drug and alcohol-related deaths exceeded 1,250. Drug and alcohol-related emergency department visits topped 11,000 in 2014, growing 37.5% since 2008 according to the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
"Addiction treatment needs to be expanding in Maryland, not shrinking," said Dr. Kathryn Seifert, Founder and CEO of ESPS. "We are stepping in to fill the expanding gap between the needs of our communities and the treatment resources available. We encourage anyone who has an emerging need, or whose treatment has been interrupted, to contact us for an immediate appointment."
ESPS has a strong history of expanding to meet the needs of the Eastern Shore. In the early 2000's, ESPS expanded to accommodate Eastern Shore clients when several mental health clinics across the shore closed. ESPS offers behavioral health services for treating a broad variety of emotional, behavioral and mental health issues and employs over 100 people (www.espsmd.com ).
"Our goal has always been to better serve the Eastern Shore community in meeting their behavioral health needs," said Dr. Mike Hooper, Director of Recovery Services for ESPS. "We are proud to now offer addiction assessment and a wide range of treatment methods to individuals and families including school-based treatment, medication-assisted treatment for opiates, group / family therapy and intensive outpatient services for children, adolescents and adults." Dr. Hooper added, "ESPS treats a broad array of behavioral health issues including depression, anxiety, mood swings, ADHD, behavior problems, sleep problems, autistic spectrum disorders and other emotional, behavioral and mental health issues."
