Advanced Electron Beams Hosts Press Conference - Receives U.S. Department of Energy Grant with Funds Used to Improve Manufacturing Competitiveness, Environmental Sustainability, and Energy Efficiency
Congressman John Tierney, The Massachusetts Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs and RockPort Capital Partner to Recognize Grant and Vision for Factory of the Future
WILMINGTON, Mass., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Department of Energy recently announced the winners of the Industrial Energy Efficiency Grand Challenge. Advanced Electron Beams (AEB) was among 48 projects awarded funding to "develop transformational manufacturing processes and technologies."
WHAT: Mitch Tyson, CEO and director of AEB, along with Congressman John Tierney, and representatives from leading corporations and organizations associated with Massachusetts' vibrant and innovative clean technology industry, will host a press conference to discuss the Industrial Energy Efficiency Grand Challenge Award and AEB's use of the funds to develop energy efficient air pollution abatement technologies. This potential use of AEB's technology is a prime example of a solution that holds promise to revolutionize America's manufacturing industry by enabling the 'Factory of the Future,' which could improve manufacturers' competitiveness, environmental sustainability, and energy efficiency.
More about the Grant: The DOE Industrial Energy Efficiency Grand Challenge grantees will receive a total of $13 million to fund projects designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the industrial sector, and enhance America's energy security and strengthen its economy. The funded projects will promote breakthrough achievements in the development of energy-efficient technologies and practices that will lower the energy demand of industry, open up new potential markets, and enhance the competitiveness of American business.
American industry's impact on the environment: American industry accounts for more than 30 percent of the energy used nationwide, is responsible for 27 percent of the country's carbon emissions, and supports nearly 13 million core manufacturing jobs. With such a large impact on the nation's economic and environmental interests, the industrial sector remains a major part of the Nation's clean energy equation.
AEB and the Grant: AEB enables the green factory of the future by making sustainable manufacturing possible and profitable. AEB's compact electron beam emitters replace thermal and chemical processes for cleaner, more efficient, lower-cost manufacturing. The company will use the funds to develop energy efficient approaches to removing volatile organic compound (VOC) pollution from industrial waste streams by direct electron oxidation. This application holds the potential to dramatically reduce costs and energy consumption compared to conventional technologies and pollution abatement technologies.
