AFA's StellarXplorers Challenge Registers 180 Teams for Upcoming Competition Season
ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association (AFA) announced today that its StellarXplorers Program, the National High School Space Competition, registered 180 teams in the program's fourth competition season, marking a 37 percent increase from the previous year.
"It's both exciting and gratifying to see the growth of the Program," said Stephen Gourley, StellarXplorers Program Director. "Having so many talented students and their dedicated educators participate bodes well for aerospace education and our nation."
High school students from 31 states and three overseas locations including, Kaiserslautern, Germany, Guam, and Osan Air Base, South Korea, will be represented during the 2018 competition season. Over two-thirds of the teams are involved in Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps Junior ROTC and Civil Air Patrol.
Students will compete to earn an all-expense-paid trip to the National Finals Competition in Colorado Springs, Co. in April 2018.
The StellarXplorers program is open to all high school students and is designed to inspire and attract high school students to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education careers through hands-on learning about technology by exercising critical thinking skills and emphasizing teamwork.
StellarXplorers is sponsored by the US Air Force STEM Program, United Launch Alliance, Orbital ATK, and SpaceX, and receives additional educational support from AGI, CEI and the Space Foundation.
