After an Exhilarating 12 Years, Sidoti & Co. is Just as Excited About the Years Ahead
NEW YORK, Feb. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- After an extremely satisfying 2011, with profits up by almost every measure, Sidoti & Company, LLC is moving forward with expansion plans. The firm is always receptive to new talent and new ideas. The roster of covered companies grows by the week, and innovative products, such as the well-received "Sidoti Micro-Cap News of the Day," are offered up frequently. No one asks, "Who is Sidoti?" any more, for the firm is known to be a feisty force in a space it largely created. Indeed, Sidoti has $5 million in net capital and boasts consistently profitable quarters for the last seven years.
Peter Sidoti's faith in the power of small-cap stocks, or companies with capitalizations of under $2.5 billion, is what prompted him to establish his own firm 12 years ago, with a small group of analysts focused solely on small-cap names. These companies were hardly Wall Street's "darlings," but Sidoti & Co. managed to pique investors' interest. As the years passed, attendance at Sidoti's conferences swelled. More recently, Mr. Sidoti turned his attention to the long-neglected micro-cap space, where market caps are below $200 million. Here, too, his faith that a treasure trove of investment opportunities could be uncovered is panning out, as interest and activity in micro-cap stocks burgeons.
Currently, Sidoti has 57 and 16 analysts following small- and micro-cap stocks, respectively and is moving toward 60 and 20 by year-end. At that point, the firm's intention is to have 700 small-cap names and 600 micro-cap names under coverage.
Such is the interest in these stocks that the firm will sponsor at least two micro-cap conferences in 2012 in addition to its giant small-cap conference in March. Sidoti carefully selects presenters from a growing pool of applicants. To appear at a Sidoti & Co., LLC conference, a company must offer an intriguing story of unusual, timely, promising products or services. Right now 202 companies are expected to present in March, with many wait-listed; for the June micro-cap event, about 100 names will strut their stuff.
Clearly, Sidoti is the dominant force in market sectors that somehow were off Wall Street's radar screen but are proving to harbor investment gems. The firm's lead is expanding as rivals lose interest in contending with Sidoti or go out of business altogether. Declares Peter Sidoti, "We think our dedication to independence and quality is marking a sea change in the information flow between institutional investors and the smallest publicly-traded companies, to the enormous benefit of both. Our 12 years of existence have been an exhilarating ride, and we are just as excited about the years ahead."
