"One indication of our company's philosophy of doing everything possible to comfort patients is the frequent use of residential visits from care dogs and cats," said Louka. "There have been numerous studies illustrating that affectionate interactions between patients and pets lessen depression and sometimes prolong lives."
"We embrace a loving, comfort care philosophy that focuses on providing our patient's medical, emotional, and spiritual care along with grief support for family members," she added. "We believe that every person is entitled to participate in every step of the end of life process that is personally fulfilling to them."
The Sherman Oaks-based company recently received its state accreditation after serving clients throughout 2015. Hospice and palliative care is being provided as a continuum of services ranging from intermittent home care to inpatient care with an emphasis on maintaining the patient at home in their familiar, comfortable and least restrictive environment.
Agape hospice care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of professionals including physicians, nurses, social workers (who assist patients and loved ones with grief counseling and end-of life planning), non-denominational chaplains (who provide spiritual an emotional support), home health aides (who provide personal care to patients in their home environment), volunteers, and bereavement counselors.
In addition to nursing services and care from home health aides, Agape provides social services, dietary counseling, physical therapy, pain control, and medications relating to hospice diagnosis, respite care for caregivers, bereavement support and volunteer assistance. Agape also provides all standard supplies and durable medical equipment including wheelchairs, electric hospital beds, and bedside commodes.
