Developed by a group of eight international designers in cooperation with the museum's MAXXI Architecttura, the exhibition explores lifestyle design concepts for places outside of the home where people spend more and more time for either work, entertainment or recreation.
Portions of the Alcantara-MAXXI exhibit may appear throughout the coming year at other venues, including Alcantara corporate and customer locations. All of the lifestyle concepts utilize Alcantara materials.
"Shape Your Life!" designers, all under age 35, were selected by a jury representing six countries. They were assigned "away from home" environments with which to work, including a car interior, an office desk, a restaurant seating area or a park bench.
Developed by Alcantara Art Director Giulio Cappellini and Domitilla Dardi, MAXXI Architettura's design curator, "Shape Your Life!" is the second Alcantara-MAXXI exhibition collaboration. The two organizations presented a "Can You Imagine?" exhibit at the museum to explore the artistic and creative potential of Alcantara material in 2011.
Alcantara, the material, is a registered trademark of Alcantara S.p.A. The result of proprietary technology, it is the choice of leading companies in automotive, marine, fashion, home-interior and consumer-electronics industries.
Founded in 1972, the company is headquartered in Milan with research and production facilities in Nera Montoro, Umbria. More information about Alcantara S.p.A. is available on the Internet at www.alcantara.com.
