CLEVELAND, Jan. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Aleris recently received recognition from the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense for the role the company's aluminum defense solutions played in improving the protection of the Warrior armored vehicle.
The United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense (MOD) recently included Aleris' aluminum defense products in its protection solutions upgrade of the battle-tested Warrior armored vehicle with BAE Systems to increase the survivability and protection characteristics of the vehicle. According to the MOD, the upgraded protection provided through Aleris aluminum resulted in increased confidence for crews of the Warrior vehicle.
"Since the installation of the Aleris aluminum defense plate protection improvement early in this year there have been multiple IED (Improvised Explosive Device) hits with no serious injuries to the vehicle crew," states Paul Bailey, Warrior in service support and urgent operational requirement manager at the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense.
"We are very pleased that our aluminum defense solutions are proving effective in the field," says Stephen Stone, Aleris vice president of commercial and defense plate. "Above all, our aluminum armor plates offer customers greater security and significant weight savings."
Aleris produces aluminum defense products at its facility in Koblenz, Germany, that meet performance standards adopted by defense agencies around the world, including corrosion resistance and ballistic requirements.
