All 50 States to be Represented in CyberPatriot VI

ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the third straight year, the Air Force Association's CyberPatriot program has teams registered in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. With over 800 teams from the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and DoD schools in Japan, South Korea, and Germany signed up, CyberPatriot is on its way to the biggest, most exciting season yet. Registration for the sixth season closes on October 10, 2013.

CyberPatriot is the premier national high school cyber defense competition created by the Air Force Association to inspire high school students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. Teams across the country compete in a series of online rounds to determine finalists for an all-expenses-paid trip to the CyberPatriot National Finals Competition in the nation's capital in March 2014.

"We are very excited to have teams registered in all 50 states for the third consecutive year," said Bernie Skoch, CyberPatriot Commissioner. "This represents the broad reach of our program and the growing interest among high school students across the country in learning more about STEM topics. CyberPatriot continues to experience remarkable growth year after year. We look forward to expanding our program throughout the sixth season and introducing more students to opportunities in the cyber defense realm."

Any high school – public, private, charter or home – can field a team for the Open Division, while Junior ROTC units from any Service and Civil Air Patrol and Naval Sea Cadets Corps squadrons are eligible to field teams in the All Service Division. The educational experience and competition materials are identical for students in either division. For the first time, middle schools are being welcomed to the competition this season in a pilot program. Details are available from AFA's CyberPatriot Program Office.

The CyberPatriot program is made possible through the support of the competition's sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor the Northrop Grumman Foundation, which has contributed mentors, internships and scholarship money. Other CyberPatriot sponsors include founding partners SAIC and CIAS at the University of Texas-San Antonio, as well as Cyber Diamond Sponsors AT&T Federal, Cisco, Microsoft, Raytheon and USA Today; Cyber Gold Sponsors URS, Splunk and Symantec; and Cyber Silver Sponsors Air Force Research Laboratory, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, University of Maryland University College, and Embry-Riddle University.
