LAS VEGAS, May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cheryl Brost, once again, proved worthy of being counted among the Fittest in the World as she won the CrossFit North West Regionals in Puyallup, WA. Brost ranked first overall in the Individual Women's division after all six events spread over three days of grueling competition.

Brost garnered second place in Event 1, a tie for third place in Event 2 and a fourth place in Event 3. She survived a potentially dangerous and time-consuming stumble in Event 4, but rebounded to place second. After placing sixth in Event 5, she finished strong with a tie for first place in the sixth and final event. Ultimately, her one point overall lead was enough to secure the outright victory and her third consecutive trip to the final round at the Reebok CrossFit Games in Los Angeles, CA in July.
"I feel both blessed and excited to have earned the opportunity to return to the Reebok CrossFit Games," Brost said.
Each of the events in the Regionals was based on a typical CrossFit WOD (Workout of the Day) that all CrossFitters perform on a regular basis. The disarmingly cute names of a WOD's individual movements, such as burpees, box jumps and muscle-ups, disguise their excruciating difficulty. This ironic, some say twisted, sense of humor is a hallmark of CrossFit culture. For example, the Event 1 WOD known as Diane was named "in honor" of the destructive 1955 hurricane that inundated North Carolina and much of the U.S. Eastern Seaboard.
However, the intensity of each WOD was amplified to the extreme in the arena of world-class competition at the North West Regionals. Some WODs were so challenging that they could not be completed by any contestant. Many of these elite athletes collapsed on the spot from exhaustion after finishing their WODs.
But after each event, Brost's grimacing game face was quickly refreshed with her irrepressible smile as each result kept her firmly at the top of the leaderboard.
"I have a handful of strengths - a combination of my mental and physical capacity certainly ranks amongst my best," stated Brost. "I believe there is little time to lay down. I need to thank those who pushed and supported me through the WODs."
Brost's win was even more impressive, considering that much of her competition was nearly half her age. The 5'2", 127-pound dynamo recently turned 41 and is the "oldest" woman in the CrossFit Games. Apparently, that statistic has no bearing whatsoever on either her approach to CrossFit training or her performance in competition.
Despite her superb individual effort, Brost was quick to credit the role of her family, coach and sponsors in her success. She is a wife and mother of two, and her entire family is dedicated to the CrossFit exercise and diet lifestyle. Brost is sponsored by Altrient, Inc., a maker of Altrient™ C and Altrient™ ME™ high-performance nutritional supplements, and is the company's athlete spokesperson.
"North West Regionals was the first opportunity I have had to perform live for my Altrient Team," Brost grinned. "I know I pushed their emotions to the max, but I certainly felt their presence and support, in addition to the physical attributes gained from Altrient™ C and ME™. I just can't thank Altrient enough for their outstanding products and support."
Brost has little time to enjoy her Regionals victory. The final round of competition, the Reebok CrossFit Games, begins on July 11th at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA near Los Angeles. She is the reigning 7th Fittest Woman in the World and she is determined to win the top honor this year. More than 20,000 women entered the CrossFit Opens. Only a few dozen elite athletes from around the world have survived the Regionals to vie for the championship. Brost's first place triumph at North West Regionals puts her in an excellent position to achieve this incredible and coveted goal.
