American Contract Bridge League President Visits "Houston Bridge Week"
HOUSTON, Aug. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Houston Unit 174 of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) is concluding its "Houston Bridge Week" by welcoming ACBL President Craig Robinson at a reception scheduled for Saturday, August 27 at the Houston Bridge Studio.
In addition to the welcome reception, the Studio will be hosting 180 players at 45 tables for duplicate bridge. Several stars of the bridge world have been invited to the sanctioned games, including Grand Life Masters Eddie Wold, John Zilic, Dan Morse, Robert Morris, Shawn Quinn and Thomas Peters.
The festivities begin at 11:30 a.m., and game entries will go on sale at 12:15 p.m. Play begins at 1 p.m. The entry fee is $10, and there will be plenty of food and refreshments available for participants. The Houston Bridge Studio is located at 9000 Southwest Freeway, Suite 290, Houston, Texas, 77074.

ACBL Unit 174 has more than 2,500 members spanning the Houston area from Galveston and Lake Jackson to Bryan/College Station, Livingston, and Baytown. There are more than 30 bridge clubs in the Unit, and Unit members play almost 30,000 tables of duplicate bridge at local bridge clubs annually. The Unit also sponsors seven duplicate tournaments each year.
The ACBL has 165,000 members who play 3 million tables of bridge annually in clubs and tournaments and an additional 300,000 tables online. There are 3,200 bridge clubs in the ACBL, which sponsors 1,100 tournaments annually.
Bridge is described as the "perfect game." It involves teamwork, problem solving, deduction, deception, reasoning, planning, bravado, communication, nuance, and luck. It is challenging, rewarding, and at times, frustrating.
