American HealthTech Announces the Industry's First Integrated INTERACT II™ Tools in Clinical Software Workflows
Providers benefit from efficient paperless workflow in the fight to reduce re-hospitalization rates with two integrated tools now, and more on the way.
JACKSON, Miss., Oct. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- American HealthTech (www.healthtech.net), the Ultimate Connectivity Partner in skilled nursing care, announces the availability of two integrated INTERACT II tools to help providers combat hospital readmissions, "SBAR" and "Stop and Watch," with more to follow. American HealthTech is the industry's first clinical software provider to have incorporated INTERACT II tools for efficient workflows.
Approximately 23.5% of Medicare beneficiaries discharged from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility were readmitted within 30 days at a cost to Medicare of $4.34 billion in 2006. (1) With MedPAC's report to Congress recommending reduced payments to skilled nursing facilities with relatively high rates of re-hospitalizations (2), the urgency to attack return to hospital visits is on the rise across the healthcare industry – spanning acute and post-acute.
INTERACT (Interventions to Reduce Acute Care Transfers) is a quality improvement program that focuses on the management of changes in resident condition. The goal: stabilize residents and reduce unplanned readmissions. (3) Studies have shown facilities using INTERACT II tools reduced acute care transfers 17-24%. (4)
"Now more than ever, hospitals need skilled nursing partners with a proven track record in reducing return to hospital visits," explained Teresa Chase, President & CEO, American HealthTech. Two-thirds of hospitals are estimated by CMS to be facing readmission-related Medicare penalties starting this month. (5) "With INTERACT II tools now incorporated into American HealthTech workflows, skilled nursing facilities can empower teams with efficient, paperless programs and processes to combat readmissions. And with Outcomes Reporting in American HealthTech, providers with great rates can show their competitive edge in reducing hospital readmissions and continuous quality improvement with data-driven proof."
