WASHINGTON, May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In what has quickly become a tradition in its own right, the NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT welcomes AMERICAN IDOL's newly crowned winner, Candice Glover, when she graces the stage at the U.S. Capitol this Memorial Day weekend to perform the "National Anthem," honoring the service and sacrifice of all our men and women in uniform, their families at home and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The concert will air live in HD on PBS from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Sunday, May 26, 2013 from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET (check local listings) before an on-site audience of hundreds of thousands, millions more at home, as well as to our troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network.
"For three years I sang the 'National Anthem' for marine graduates' families at a meet and greet program," said Glover. "I'm so excited that I can graduate from that and sing the 'National Anthem' at the Capitol. It means so much to me."
The multi award-winning program will be co-hosted for the eighth year by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna (CRIMINAL MINDS) and Emmy Award-winner Gary Sinise (CSI:NEW YORK), two acclaimed actors who have dedicated themselves to veterans causes and supporting our troops in active service.
