American Traffic Solutions' George Hittner Named "Litigator of the Year"
Arizona Association of Corporate Counsel honors legal trailblazer
TEMPE, Ariz., March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorney George J. Hittner has been named "Litigator of the Year 2013" by the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and Arizona Business Magazine based on his legal work in the road safety photo enforcement industry during the past five years.
Mr. Hittner has expanded legal doctrines, successfully overturned illegal elections, and ultimately never lost a constitutional challenge to a state or local program he has handled for Tempe-based American Traffic Solutions Inc., where he is general counsel, corporate secretary and vice president for governmental relations. ATS is the North American market leader in traffic photo enforcement safety equipment, including producing devices that monitor driver compliance with traffic lights and speed limits. The company also offers various toll road products. More than 300 government entities utilize ATS products.
"It is an honor to receive this award based on ATS' work guiding local governments, defending class action suits, and helping establish and expand the important area of photo enforcement traffic safety law," says Mr. Hittner. "There aren't many jobs where you get to defend the Constitution day in and day out while at the same time helping to make our streets and families safer on our roads and in our neighborhoods."
Mr. Hittner has overseen hundreds of lawsuits, including several that have been ultimately favorably resolved by various state Supreme Courts and U.S. courts of appeal. He also helped win challenges to five illegally-called municipal elections over traffic cameras, including three in his home state of Texas.
In addition to leading a 12-person staff and working with eight regional law firms to establish legal industry precedents, Mr. Hittner also is credited with establishing a legal database identifying all major red-light and speeding cases in the U.S. involving camera monitoring technology.
Mr. Hittner, 34, has served as a White House Appointee at the U.S. Department of Labor, and worked as a litigation associate at a major Texas law firm. He also has managed a statewide judicial campaign and made a run for a Houston city council seat, in addition to earning five academic degrees, including two Masters and a law degree.
