America's Energy Advantage Files with Department of Energy to Participate in Discussions to Ensure Natural Gas Exports are in the Public Interest
~Group Continues to Advocate for Appropriate Public Interest Standards and Determinations that Reflect the Interests of All Sectors of the Economy
WASHINGTON, Aug. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- America's Energy Advantage (AEA) yesterday filed a motion to intervene in a natural gas export permitting proceeding (FE Docket No. 13-26-LNG) before the Department of Energy. AEA did so to preserve its rights to participate in the permit approval process.
"Exporting too much natural gas too fast could cause a supply shock and hurt domestic manufacturers who are using newfound supplies of natural gas to spur a manufacturing renaissance," said Jennifer Diggins, Director, Public Affairs for Nucor Corporation and Chair of AEA. "Domestic job growth and the multiplier effect from natural gas used in manufacturing is many times that of the value created when gas is simply exported as LNG. For that reason, AEA is proud to stand up on behalf of manufacturers and intervene in – or become a formal part of – the DOE process."
This step, required by law for all who wish to participate in this proceeding, will allow AEA to continue to advocate for public interest standards that are specific and comprehensive for natural gas exports.
AEA also intends to closely follow the information and analysis presented to DOE and what it indicates about exports' potential impact on the public interest.
