WASHINGTON, Nov. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc. The AMS-IX New Jersey node will be built within DFT's NJ1 data center and will become part of AMS-IX New York; a neutral distributed Internet exchange point for the New York/New Jersey area. AMS-IX is based in Amsterdam and is the largest Internet Exchange in the world, connecting over 600 IP networks from nearly 60 countries with around 1,130 ports.

DuPont Fabros Technology has built a robust tri-lateral underground conduit system that encompasses a 3 mile radius of its NJ1 data center. This conduit system provides three fully diverse and redundant underground fiber entrances into the facility. At present, there are 20 network carriers including the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Secure Financial Transaction Infrastructure (SFTI) Network which provide connectivity services to DFT's NJ1 customers. Additionally, NJ1 offers its customers connectivity to hubs in the NY/NJ area and to sub-sea cable landing stations in Long Island and New Jersey connecting the Eastern seaboard of the United States to Europe and South America.

The AMS-IX New Jersey node at NJ1 will be built both as a core-switch and as an edge-switch site of AMS-IX New York. The switching architecture will be based on Brocade MLX routers with full peering services provided by AMS-IX USA Inc., while DFT will provide Cross Connects to the exchange. AMS-IX USA Inc.'s agreement supports DFT's plan to host an Open-IX certified Internet Exchange in each of its four markets.  The AMS-IX New Jersey node at NJ1 is expected to be live before the end of 2013 and AMS-IX New York will offer incentivized port pricing to DFT's customers through the end of 2014.

The Open Internet Exchange (Open-IX) Association is a member-governed non-profit organization working at a fast pace to drive the expansion of neutral Internet Exchanges, reduce interconnection complexity and cost, and improve access to networks within critical interconnection markets.  DFT and AMS-IX USA Inc. intend to apply for Open-IX certification of the NJ1 data center and AMS-IX New York respectively. Open-IX information can be found at: www.open-ix.org

"DFT's Piscataway data center provides us with a great peering location outside of Manhattan.  It is strategically located in New Jersey and enables a straight line in the shortest possible distance East of Chicago," said Job Whitteman, CEO at AMS-IX. "We expect this Internet Exchange to evolve into a major interconnection hub outside of Manhattan furthering complementing DFT's interconnection services for its customers."

"We are pleased to be partnering with AMS-IX USA Inc. in making our NJ1 data center in Piscataway the first New Jersey site to be part of the AMS-IX New York distributed internet exchange," said Vinay Nagpal, Director of Carrier Relations at DFT. "The AMS-IX New Jersey node at NJ1 will offer DFT customers a unique opportunity to directly peer their IP traffic on the AMS-IX New York's distributed peering fabric and experience improved network performance."
