ARISE Detroit! & DPS to Announce New Partnership as part of August 4th citywide event

DETROIT, July 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and Detroit Public Schools officials will appear at a news conference today announcing a new DPS partnership with ARISE Detroit! to create safe school routes as part of the sixth annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day.
Neighborhoods Day will feature more than 150 community service and improvement projects across the city, involving hundreds of organizations and thousands of people.
Details of the DPS/ARISE Detroit! collaboration will be announced at 11 a.m today at Harms Elementary School in Detroit, located at 2400 Central near Vernor.
The new partnership will invite local businesses and community organizations to "adopt" schools for Neighborhoods Day. This will include creating "safe school" routes in blighted neighborhoods around schools and various school renovation projects.
In addition, Neighborhoods Day will include more than 50 community cleanup projects and numerous health fairs, back to school events and youth activities in neighborhoods all over the city from sun up to sundown.
