SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 15, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Analogic Technologies, Inc. (AnalogicTech™) (Nasdaq: AATI), an analog semiconductor company focused on powering innovative solutions in consumer, industrial, and communications markets, today introduced the MicroSwitcher™ converter family of ultra-compact switching regulators that achieve efficiency of up to 95 percent, yet are as simple to design in as low-dropout (LDO) regulators. AnalogicTech's MicroSwitcher converter family offers a range of easy-to-use, step-down converters designed for space constrained applications that require high efficiency including consumer products such as Bluetooth headsets and solid state drives as well as point-of-load regulation in industrial products and portable medical devices.

Products launched today include the AAT6101 MicroSwitcher step-down converter that delivers up to 400mA output current and the AAT6102, which delivers up to 600mA output current. Both support an adjustable 0.6V to VIN output from a 2.7V to 5.5V input supply and are ultra-compact switching regulator solutions that include integrated inductors. In a 2.4 mm x 2.4 mm x 0.9 mm package, the integrated solution occupies about half the board area of a switcher with a standalone inductor. Each MicroSwitcher solution requires only two feedback resistors and two capacitors. The next addition to the family, the AAT6103, supports up to 1A output current and will come to market in Q1 of 2011.
"Traditionally system designers had to trade off solution size for efficiency," said Roger Smullen, product marketing manager at AnalogicTech. "Our MicroSwitcher converters offer system designers an extremely small solution size, high efficiency and ease-of-use, making these products a green alternative to low-efficiency LDOs."
The AAT610X MicroSwitcher converters offer a one-step design that allows users to simply choose feedback resistors to set output voltage, with no additional programming or design considerations. This removes the complexity of deciding which inductor to use with the switching regulator. Further, MicroSwitcher converters offer up to 95 percent efficiency, 37 microA no-load quiescent current, sub-1 microA shutdown current and low-noise light-load mode.
"Today's electronic devices have a wide range of power management requirements," continued Smullen. "With the addition of the MicroSwitcher converter family, we offer a comprehensive DC-DC converter portfolio that ranges from cost effective LDOs to high-efficiency switchers and now ultra-compact, high-efficiency switchers. Our ability to deliver an extensive range of high-performance power management solutions enables customers to implement the best option to meet cost, size and efficiency requirements."
The AAT6101, AAT6102 and AAT6103 are available exclusively outside of the United States and its territories.
