ANDalyze Receives US Environmental Protection Agency Validation of Technology and Products for On-Site Metal Analysis in Water
ANDalyze DNAzyme water sensor technology has completed testing by the USEPA for use in drinking water and environmental water. The results of these tests are a publicly available third party testing report that notes the usefulness of the technology and products.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill., March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ANDalyze has completed the application, protocol development and testing phases required by the rigorous USEPA ETV program. The report is available from the US EPA at:
ANDalyze US EPA ETV Report
- ANDalyze Test Kit and Fluorimeter: Full report (150 pgs.)
- A summary of the report is available at: Summary Report
General findings of the report:
Ease-of-use. US EPA reported that the ease-of-use of the ANDalyze product was high.
The limit of detection was below 2 micrograms per liter. The limit of detection of the product was calculated to be less than 2 micrograms per liter of lead (Pb). This means that the US EPA has validated that the product works to the specified an even lower limit than ANDalyze has indicated.
The technology works in a variety of water types. The product analyzed metal content in a variety of water samples including drinking water, ground water, surface water and wastewater. The technology worked in each water type.
ANDalyze technology compared well with ICP-MS analysis method. A detailed data analysis related to percent recovery of spikes by ANDalyze tests and comparison to ICP-MS is available in the report and summary (see previous links to documents on the USEPA website).
The linearity of detection was calculated to be highly linear. The high linearity means that the test method is consistent across the range of the of the products specifications.
The percent recovery of spiked sample was 75 – 125%. This demonstrating that the ANDalyze tests work very well for field-testing of a variety of matrices. Also the US EPA validated that the ANDalyze specification of +/- 25% is an accurate specification for the product.
ANDalyze Product
The ANDalyze product is a system of hand-held fluorimeter and consumable sensors that test for heavy metal concentrations in water, which provides results in less than one minute. The system currently tests for lead, copper, uranium, mercury, zinc and cadmium. A variety of new sensors are planned for the coming months.

Heavy Metal Testing Made Easy
The ANDalyze solution consists of consumable sensors in combination with the ANDalyze fluorimeter. Measuring metal ions is done through a reaction occurring when a water sample containing a target metal ion contaminant (e.g. lead) is introduced to an analyte-specific DNAzyme sensor. The test is performed by injecting a water sample through the sensor housing, and into a portable fluorimeter. The sample will fluoresce in direct correlation to the amount of metal ion present in the sample. Results are given in parts per billion (PPB) in less than one minute. This method greatly reduces time and effort as compared with older technologies. This advantage creates a cost savings for organizations that are responsible for water testing of public drinking water supplies, environmental water sources or industrial water operations.
