Andrew Roby Selected To Build Homes In Durham's Southside Revitalization Project
DURHAM, N.C., June 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The City of Durham selected Andrew Roby, Inc. to build single-family homes in the Southside neighborhood as part of a $48 million revitalization effort.
The initiative to transform the 125-acre Southside neighborhood into a mixed-income neighborhood is under way. The first two phases of the downtown Durham development will offer 48 single-family homes, 198 mixed-income rental units and 13 live-work units.
"Andrew Roby strongly believes in giving back to the community, and we're excited about the opportunity to help revitalize the Southside neighborhood," said Andrew Roby Business Manager Will McKendry. "The location, within walking distance of amenities such as the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, Durham Performing Arts Center and American Tobacco Trail, is second to none."
Andrew Roby will break ground on three homes, including a model home, on Aug. 15. Home buyers can choose from eight different floor plans of Craftsman-style homes, each with three to five different elevation options. McKendry said there are opportunities to customize certain features inside and out. The Hardiplank homes range in size from 1,200 to 1,456 square feet and include granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and main-level hardwood floors. Homes will be priced from $160,000 to $170,000.
Various forms of financial assistance will be available to buyers with incomes below 80 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). For more information, please contact Will McKendry at (919) 210-2928.
"Andrew Roby was selected in part for the company's high standards of quality and strong track record in constructing, marketing and selling homes in an urban infill neighborhood," said Shepherd Smith, a project manager in Durham's Department of Community Development.
The City of Durham issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) in December, soliciting qualifications for home builders for the construction of up to 48 single-family homes in the first phase of Southside. The proposals from Andrew Roby General Contractor and another home builder received the highest average scores, and the review panel decided unanimously to recommend both as the approved builders for the first phase of development.
