Finalists were recognized for extraordinary legal skill and achievement across a full range of in-house responsibilities, exemplary leadership, and for contributions to the Arizona community at large. Her nomination and subsequent selection are recognition for her contributions to the business success of Angel MedFlight.
LoCascio joined the company in 2008 as its first in-house counsel, advocating on behalf of patients to ensure they receive the benefits they are entitled to under their insurance policies.
LoCascio is an attorney with 10 years of experience and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska and a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. LoCascio specializes in the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), labor and employment, commercial litigation and ethics.
She says what she enjoys most about her position is advocating for patients, developing relationships with them, and helping them get their benefits. She's proud of the work she's accomplished at Angel MedFlight.
"We've made huge strides here by advocating on behalf of our patients as it relates to their insurance coverage," says LoCascio, who has built a team of attorneys that oversee all revenue recovery. "By knowing the insurance laws and putting the patient's medical needs first – we have built a foundation of patient advocacy at Angel MedFlight – which has been a game-changer within the air ambulance industry. Every day my practice in ERISA offers an exciting new phase of legal analysis," LoCascio says.
She became interested in the legal profession at an early age by accompanying her Father to meet with his counsel, and was influenced by a female attorney she met.
"I remember watching how this woman carried herself – so confidently," states LoCascio. "She was very charismatic and intelligent, and I equated that to her role as an attorney; I just knew I wanted to take the same career path."
LoCascio was delighted to be a 2014 Arizona Corporate Counsel Awards Finalist. She says that being an in-house attorney is "very rewarding", and that being a finalist among the caliber of other in-house attorneys from Sprouts, Intel, PCH, GoDaddy and Avnet was "a phenomenal honor".
LoCascio has been featured in the Arizona Business Journal, the May 2011 Attorney At Law Magazine, as the female practitioner of the month, and recognized in Arizona Woman and Phoenix Magazine for her professional accomplishments. In 2008, she was named one of the top 50 pro bono attorneys in Arizona. She stays involved in the community by participating in local high school and college Moot Court competitions as well as volunteering for the American Cancer Society, Desert Lab Retriever Rescue and the Sojourner Center.
She is also an adjunct professor at the Arizona Summit Law School, a judge pro tem for juvenile and civil law, and court appointed mediator in the areas of family law and corporate transactions.
When she's not advocating for our patients' rights, she's busy taking care of her three-year-old son, Giovanni, who really likes the perks of playing with the jets at her workplace.
