Anie Borja Appointed Executive Director of National Women's Business Council

WASHINGTON, July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Women's Business Council (NWBC) announced Monday the selection of Anie Borja as its new executive director. Borja will oversee the strategic and grassroots work of the independent Council. She joins at a time when women-owned businesses represent considerable untapped potential as one of the fastest growing segments of our economy.

The NWBC is a nonpartisan federal advisory council created to serve as an independent source of research, advice and policy recommendations to the president, Congress and the U.S. Small Business Administration on economic issues of importance to the growth of women business owners. It is made up of 15 diverse, prominent women business owners and leaders of women's business organizations from across the nation. Each member is appointed to a three-year term.

Borja most recently served as a senior advisor for SBA, where she worked in the field operations office providing leadership and oversight for implementing initiatives across 68 district offices. She helped small businesses increase their access to capital, counseling and government contracts.

Borja also has worked closely on initiatives with the White House and managed outreach to thousands of small business owners. She has advised nonprofit organizations, helping to build infrastructure, operations and business development strategies. She also served as a financial advisor at Credit Suisse, developing client relationships to secure new business and manage investment portfolios.

Early in her career, Borja was a lead staffer for presidential advance teams and served in business development and communications roles at Acumen Fund and United Way.

Borja earned an MBA in finance and management New York University Stern School of Business and a bachelor's degree from University of California Los Angeles.
