Anne Babineau Receives The Cary Edwards Leadership Award for Promoting Smart Growth in New Jersey
WOODBRIDGE, N.J., June 5, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer is pleased to announce that Anne S. Babineau, co-chair of the firm's real estate practice, and a driving force in their statewide multi-disciplinary redevelopment work, received New Jersey Future's 2015 Cary Edwards Leadership Award at their annual Smart Growth Awards ceremony on Thursday, June 4, 2015.
"We have long recognized the important leadership role that Anne plays within the firm and among her industry peers through her unwavering commitment to clients and the State by finding the right solutions to solve many of the problems that redevelopment presents." said John A. Hoffman, Wilentz's Chairman of the Board.
At the ceremony, Ms. Babineau quoted Ken Kesey, the author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest: "You don't lead by pointing and telling people some place to go. You lead by going to that place and making a case." For more than 30 years, Ms. Babineau has made the case for redevelopment, providing legal counseling and advocacy, helping to turn dilapidated and vacant sites into mixed-use and office projects, brownfields into state of the art industrial warehouses, positioning her at the forefront of some of the most iconic urban redevelopment projects. Working with clients who are committed to face the challenges of redevelopment, Ms. Babineau and the other attorneys at Wilentz who regularly work together on such projects, have devised solutions for meeting those challenges. Together they have made difficult projects feasible with public private partnerships that required well supported redevelopment area designations, creative financing using tax abatement and public financing and incentive programs, and well planned and executed property acquisition.
The Cary Edwards Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding commitment to promoting smart growth in New Jersey, strengthening communities by encouraging redevelopment where infrastructure already exists and enabling the preservation of natural resources elsewhere.
