Antimicrobial Wipe Kleenhanz Suggested for Holiday Travel Infection Control
Experts warn that most hand-sanitizers do not kill E. coli, Salmonella and H1N1
SAN ANTONIO, June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- This Fourth of July weekend will put millions of American travelers in contact with infectious agents including germs, bacteria, and viruses in high-contact areas, such as public toilets, gas pumps, and door handles. In fact, AAA estimates that 39 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home, by road or air this weekend. Infection control experts are on high alert. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that clean hands are the best defense against spreading illness and that hand sanitizing gels are limited in their effectiveness.
Several experts recommend using products that contain antimicrobials, compounds similar to antibiotics that kill or inhibit the growth of micro-organisms, for travel, as well as everyday use. Dr. James P. Chambers, Researcher and Professor of Biotechnology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, has studied infectious agents for more than 30 years and suggests using a new antimicrobial wipe called Kleenhanz® when soap and water are not readily available.
"Kleenhanz® is a revolutionary product that has already begun making a tremendous impact in the fight against infectious illness," says Chambers. "So many people are under the misconception that hand-sanitizers provide total protection, and this is simply not true."
Kleenhanz® is an alcohol-free hand cleaning and sanitizing wipe that kills 99.99% of germs and bacteria on contact through the use of antimicrobial and hypoallergenic agents, Benzethonium Chloride and Benzalkonium Chloride, and provides long-lasting germ-killing protection.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are meant to be used on hands that have already been properly washed and dried. Those who use these products alone after touching high-contact objects like a public toilet or a gas pump may still be at risk for contracting E. coli, Salmonella, or H1N1.
Infection Control in Schools
On June 13, 2011 the Northeast Independent School District (NEISD) in San Antonio renewed a district wide contract with Kleenhanz®, effectively continuing Kleenhanz® placement in all NEISD classrooms.
