BOSTON, Feb. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Apperian® Inc., the mobile application management (MAM®) company, today announced that it has received an Authority to Operate (ATO) with the U.S. Transportation Security Agency (TSA). The ATO clears the way for the TSA to roll out its Apperian-powered internal enterprise app store to provide its employee and contractor population with new mobile apps that will make workers more productive.
The TSA enterprise app store, through Apperian's Mobile Application Management platform, applies fine-grained security and dynamic policy controls at the individual app level, allowing all apps to be securely deployed where mobile device management approaches are not possible or desired. With Apperian, TSA employees, BYOD users, and contract workers can use their mobile devices to access training programs, internal communications, regulation updates, safety procedures, and other timely and important information.
"Providing government workers with mobile access to job-critical information and time-saving tools represents a powerful opportunity to improve efficiency and achieve cost-savings," said Bob Luby, former VP for IBM Federal and current Managing Director for True North Equities, a firm dedicated to serving companies delivering critical solutions to Government. "The Department of Homeland Security alone has over 240,000 employees and the TSA's enterprise app store is making great strides by enabling mobility, regardless of device, while maintaining tight security control at the app- and data-level."
TSA's certification involved a detailed and highly scrutinized accreditation process that includes a thorough testing to validate the security and stability of the technology. The ATO allows TSA to quickly and cost-effectively put new applications into production on Apperian's mobile application management platform, which will run as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and is one of the first to be hosted in a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) certified cloud service, IBM's SmartCloud for Government.
"We're seeing a significant increase in interest in mobility technology from the public sector, which has stringent security requirements, especially as BYOD becomes more prevalent," said Harvey Morrison, SVP Global Public Sector and Corporate Accounts at Apperian. "Our ATO certification proves that our security is bulletproof and we're looking forward to deploying the enterprise app store for the TSA and working with other government organizations to help them maximize the value of investments in mobility."
