Applied Communication Sciences Honors Two Employees with Highest Technical Award Company's Top Innovators and Industry Leaders Named ACS Fellows
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Dec. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Communication Sciences announced today that it has elevated two employees to the title of ACS Fellow in recognition of their industry-leading innovations, critical business contributions, and extensive collaborations with clients and business partners.

The two employees who have earned the Fellow distinction this year are:
Dr. Thomas Chapuran, Network Systems Research: Tom has led or co-led a broad spectrum of advanced communications research initiatives that have produced ground-breaking results. Those results have been particularly focused in the areas of broadband access networking, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and quantum communications. In the quantum field, Tom was a vital contributor to a string of important "firsts" including the first demonstration of component-level switching of single photons and the first demonstration of switching single photons through commercial network elements. The depth of his technical leadership was underscored earlier this year through receiving an Edison Award for a patent he co-authored on quantum relays. This breakthrough research makes quantum communications practical and scalable in fiber optic networks while reducing infrastructure costs.
Sunil Samtani, Mobile Networking: For more than a decade Sunil has been at the forefront of tactical mobile networking - - an increasingly vital technology for the U.S. military as it evolves to a network-centric mode of operation. His research and development in this area has been pioneering, including developing the first integrated ad hoc mobile networking protocol suite for the U.S. Army, demonstrating the capability to provide critical voice, video and data services to warfighters in challenging tactical communications environments. Having authored more than 80 research papers, Sunil has consistently demonstrated an exceptional combination of technical acumen, as well as the practical skills needed to transition innovative technology from the laboratory to mission-critical communications systems. His technical vision and achievements in tactical mobile networking ensure that the U.S. military will maintain information superiority over its adversaries in tactical operations.
