Arizona Indian Gaming Association Backs The Arizona Education Finance Amendment, Proposition 123

PHOENIX, May 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Arizona Indian Gaming Association (AIGA), on behalf of its 15 member Tribes, declared its support of the Arizona Education Finance Amendment, known as Proposition 123, as part of a formal resolution from the Member Tribes of the Association.

"Funding for Arizona's schools is critical to the economic growth and vitality of the state and will vastly improve the quality of life for all Arizonans," said AIGA Chairman Louis J. Manuel Jr. "Proposition 123 is consistent with AIGA member Tribes' efforts to provide all Arizona students with exceptional education and educational opportunities."

As steadfast supporters of K-12 education throughout the state, Arizona's Tribes make significant contributions each year, through the Tribal-State gaming compacts, to the Arizona Benefits Fund. To date, Tribes have contributed more than $500 million to enhance education – both on and off reservations – supporting early reading programs, dropout prevention programs, reduction of class sizes and the enhancement of teacher salaries.

AIGA's member Tribes encourage voter approval of Proposition 123 because it helps create much-needed additional funding sources for our schools today. By some estimates, Proposition 123 will provide an additional $3.5 billion to fund K-12 education over the next 10 years.

In support of Proposition 123, AIGA is sharing a video message on its social media sites and is also encouraging its voter base to support the amendment with a "yes" vote on Tuesday, May 17.
