WARREN, Mich., Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Hunger knows no bounds. Art Van Furniture and WXYZ-TV are teaming up for the fifth consecutive year with Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, a non-profit organization feeding the hungry for over 36 years, for the Together We Can food drive to help families this holiday season. Art Van Furniture will collect donations of non-perishable food items at stores around metro Detroit, including Ann Arbor, Port Huron and Howell, from November 1 to 25.
Last year, the Together We Can food drive collected more than 17,000 pounds of food for rural, suburban and urban communities throughout metro Detroit. This year's goal is to collect more than 20,000 pounds to help fight hunger. Donations will be distributed to soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland and Wayne counties by Gleaners Community Food Bank.
"Fighting hunger in our community is an ongoing challenge, and as neighbors and citizens we have the responsibility to do as much as we can to help," said Gary Van Elslander, president of Art Van Furniture. "We have received overwhelming support for the Together We Can community service effort in the past, and we are confident we can meet this year's goal."
All guests are encouraged to drop off the food donations to Art Van Furniture locations in support of the Together We Can food drive. For more information, contact Art Van Furniture or visit artvan.com.
