ArtStartArt Launches Online Marketplace to Curate and Sell University Student Art Work

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Launched in Summer 2018, ArtStartArt is an Austin-based online marketplace designed to bridge the gap between art school and professional practice. Created by Alok Marwaha and Erik Culver, the online marketplace was inspired by Culver's own experiences.

A graduate from the University of Texas' College of Fine Art, Culver left school with a diverse portfolio of original art that he didn't know what to do with. At the same time, he noticed many of his friends didn't have original art displayed on their walls - that's when the idea struck. Culver wanted to create a space where consumers could browse well-crafted, original art without the intimidation or high price tag.

"As an art student, I saw first-hand how the art world could be an exclusive and intimidating environment for both the seller and buyer. When Alok and I were putting ArtStartArt together, I was thrilled by the idea of creating a platform that not only gave students a place to receive real feedback on their craft but to also make art more accessible to the masses," said Co-Founder, Erik Culver. ArtStartArt works by partnering with Universities throughout the country to showcase student artists. Students at participating universities can submit art to be considered on the marketplace for free. ArtStartArt's rotating list of curators then hand selects their top pieces to feature. The curator and artist collaborate and decide on the sales price based on predetermined criteria.

New art is selected and added to the marketplace each month and is available for a limited time only. The marketplace will maintain 250 to 300 pieces of art priced on average between $300 to $400. Art mediums featured include but are not limited to: photography, paintings, drawings, sculpture, etc. ArtStartArt is proud to donate five percent of each sale to the student's fine arts program.
