CLEVELAND, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Associated Estates Realty Corporation (NYSE: AEC) (Nasdaq: AEC) announced today that John Hinkle has joined the company in the capacity of Vice President of Acquisitions.  

In this newly created role reporting to John T. Shannon, SVP of Operations, Hinkle will be directly responsible for identifying and generating acquisition opportunities that are aligned with the Company's investment objectives.  Working as a member of the existing acquisition team, Hinkle will specifically drive the transaction activity from initial underwriting, through negotiation and contract finalization.

Hinkle joins Associated Estates with over 13 years of experience in the acquisition, development, management and valuation of investment properties.  Most recently, he served as a Consultant for Federal Capital Partners.  His previous acquisitions experience also includes Fairfield Residential, Van Metre Companies and Archstone-Smith Trust.  Hinkle is a member of the Urban Land Institute.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Lehigh University.
