Association of Deputy District Attorneys (Los Angeles) Endorse John Eastman for Attorney General
Cooley's Own Working Prosecutors Pointedly Endorse Eastman
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Delivering a stinging rebuke to L.A. County District Attorney Steve Cooley, the Association of Deputy District Attorneys (ADDA - Los Angeles) has endorsed John Eastman for the Republican nomination for Attorney General.
"I am extremely honored to have the support of frontline prosecutors in Los Angeles, the largest association of prosecutors in the nation," said Eastman. "These prosecutors work everyday to keep our communities safe. They know me and share my conservative approach to law and order. This important endorsement testifies to my commitment to enforce laws such as 'Three Strikes' that put career criminals behind bars for a long, long time."
Eastman, who stepped down as Dean of Chapman University School of Law and announced his candidacy for Attorney General only this week, is the clear conservative choice in the Republican field. Eastman, who clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and helped direct the United States Commission on Civil Rights under President Reagan, has also been endorsed by former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese. Widely considered to be one of the top conservative legal experts in the nation, he has for decades championed critically important cases in our nation's courts, including the United States Supreme Court, on behalf of taxpayers, property owners and citizens.
Steve Cooley, the District Attorney of Los Angeles County, has announced he is exploring a campaign for the Republican nomination as well and has begun raising funds.
"We are supporting candidates for Attorney General who demonstrate a clear commitment to upholding the voters' will and vigorously enforcing the Three Strikes Law," said John Herrold, Board Member of ADDA. "We support John Eastman because he strongly supports Three Strikes and he has a record of defending the voters' intent in court."
"The prosecutors who know Steve Cooley best have endorsed John Eastman," said Jeff Flint, strategist for the Eastman for Attorney General campaign. "Cooley has not yet requested the ADDA endorsement, perhaps because he knows he won't get it. Cooley has refused to prosecute many career criminals under our 'Three Strikes' law and he has actively worked to weaken it. You'd expect that from the liberal Democratic candidate like San Francisco D.A. Kamala Harris, not from a Republican. We're confident voters will rally around John Eastman's candidacy – the conservative choice for Attorney General – just as Los Angeles County prosecutors have done."
