ATERAS successfully completes the Re-Hosting of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) Software AG Adabas/Natural Applications using ATP® on Microsoft Windows
DALLAS, July 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ATERAS, a leading provider of legacy application modernization solutions, announced today the successful completion of a Re-Hosting project for CalPERS, one of the Nation's largest pension systems providing retirement and health benefits for 1.6M individuals and 3,000 employers.
CalPERS needed a cost effective solution to replace their mainframe Software AG Adabas/Natural legacy environment without changing the look, feel or functionality of the applications used by their pension members. The ATERAS ATP solution was a perfect fit for CalPERS. The mainframe Natural syntax was Re-Hosted to Windows and the Adabas files were converted to Oracle on Linux. The project was completed in 5 months, including planning, assessment, Re-Hosting and all levels of testing. Performance is excellent and production costs have been dramatically reduced. The Re-Hosting initiative is considered a total success by everyone involved in the project.
The Application Transparency Platform (ATP) from ATERAS is a revolutionary Natural application Re-Hosting solution that provides lower operational and license costs, increases developer productivity, and results in fully relational database processing. ATP ensures the continued use of legacy assets, business rules and development team skills. ATP clients dramatically reduce the time and expense for modernizing their technology platforms and receive a greatly accelerated return on their investments. With ATP, Adabas files and data are converted to Oracle, SQL Server or DB2, and mainframe Natural syntax is completely unchanged.
"CalPERS needed a solution that allowed them to retain their proven application functionality and user interface while eliminating their mainframe, their expensive legacy environment and their rising vendor license fees," said Scott Miller, CEO, President, ATERAS. "It was also important to achieve this in a timely and transparent manner, ensuring uninterrupted access to the pension data for 1.6 million people and 3,000 employers."
ATP eliminates expensive software licensing costs and provides an enhanced development and maintenance environment for the application support teams. Natural programmers continue to develop applications using the same Natural syntax and benefit from a greatly enhanced IDE that includes additional tools and services.
"ATERAS' ATP Re-Hosting product is a proven approach for migrating Natural/Adabas applications to a Windows Server," said Bob Ellsworth, Microsoft Worldwide Director of Platform Modernization. "The decision to migrate the pension system using the ATERAS solution demonstrates the belief in this approach to deliver the desired TCO, with accelerated delivery and minimal risk."
