WASHINGTON, Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Atlantic Media's newest brand, Defense One, which provides national security news, analysis, and ideas, announced today the first annual Defense One Summit to be held November 14th in Washington, DC.   The Defense One Summit will gather the most concentrated audience of senior national security and defense leaders to look deep into the unprecedented transformation of national security strategy and operations facing U.S. leaders today.

Defense One launched in July 2013 to provide national security leaders, influential professionals, stakeholders, and interested citizens across the defense spectrum with in-depth analysis and timely news.   The inaugural Defense One Summit will convene this audience to debate big ideas, share leadership lessons, and discuss the pressing issues shaping defense strategy each day.

"In a time of shifting threat frontiers, tight budgets and rapidly changing technology, members of this community face stark choices as they try to secure and defend our nation," said Tim Hartman, President of Atlantic Media's Government Executive Media Group, which produces Defense One. "The Defense One Summit will explore the ideas and strategies defining the future of our national defense."

"It's clear that the United States is now firmly responsible for global security," said Kevin Baron, Executive Editor of Defense One. "But to what extent? And at what cost? The Defense One Summit will begin to define the post-war boundaries and limits of U.S. national security, our responsibility to the world, and the use of military power in this new era."

Mr. Baron shared news of summit with readers in a letter from the editor available at defenseone.com.

The Defense One Summit will explore a series of provocative questions around the evolving threats at the forefront of national security concerns.  Through speeches and one-on-one interviews, Department of Defense leaders, national security experts, and military commanders will share insight into the most pressing issues at the future of defense from their unique vantage points. The event's moderators include CBS News' White House Correspondent, Major Garrett , CNN's Pentagon Correspondent, Barbara Starr, and Al Jazeera America's Jamie Tarabay along with Baron and Associate Editor/Senior Reporter, Stephanie Gaskell.

Topics to be explored throughout the day include:

  • In the post-war era, the U.S. has taken responsibility for global security, but what are the boundaries for American interests, intervention, and the use of military force?
  • How are shifting frontiers, like the pivot to Asia, and evolving threats, like cyber, forcing national security leaders to make new choices about American power in the new era?
  • How are Pentagon leaders preparing to build a strong, agile national security architecture to match the coming age?
  • What role should the United States play in the new Middle East?
  • Should the U.S. ever respond to digital threats and cyber attacks with military force?

The full-day Defense One Summit, convening November 14, 2013 at the Grand Hyatt in Washington D.C., is by invitation-only.  For more information, speaker updates, and to request an invitation to attend, please visit defenseone.com/summit or follow us on Twitter @DefenseOne with hashtag #DefOneSummit.
