CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* today announced the company is hiring workers for more than 100 jobs in North Carolina, including nearly 30 new jobs, to keep up with ongoing network investment and growing demand for its wireless and wireline products and services.

The openings are mostly a mix of technician and retail positions across the state. They are the result of AT&T's continued investment in North Carolina to support network improvement and customer service. AT&T invested more than $250 million in its wireless and wired networks in North Carolina in the first half of 2013, building on more than $1.5 billion it invested in its wireless and wired networks from 2010 through 2012.
"Advanced communications networks and services are one of the keys to North Carolina's future economic success in a global economy," said Brooks Raiford, President of the North Carolina Technology Association. "These jobs, and the capital investments which they support, are good news, for they represent new opportunities for individuals and future opportunities for businesses and our state. This underscores the wisdom of state policies that encourage private investment in state-of-the-art technology."
AT&T's growth in North Carolina is part of the company's Project VIP, a three-year investment plan to expand and enhance its wireless and wireline IP broadband networks. So far in 2013, AT&T North Carolina has:
- Launched 4G LTE in 14 new markets: Sanford, Rocky Mount-Wilson, Henderson, Outer Banks, Asheville, Goldsboro, Kinston, Dunn, New Bern, Albemarle, Greenville, Morehead City, Jacksonville and Hickory. The service has been expanded in six others: Charlotte-Gastonia, Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro-Winston Salem, Fayetteville, Wilmington and New Bern.
- Installed fiber to an additional 93 multi-tenant buildings across North Carolina, making fiber-based broadband services available to more than 2,500 business customer locations. North Carolina businesses in these AT&T Fiber Ready Buildings have access to an expanded array of security, network and cloud-based services, all of which ride on the fiber network.
- Nearly doubled residential and small business Internet speeds in Charlotte, Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem, and Raleigh with AT&T's U-verse High Speed Internet Power, providing speeds up to 45 Mbps downstream and up to 6 Mbps upstream.
- RootMetrics® ranked AT&T's overall wireless call, text and data network performance first in Charlotte, Durham, and Winston-Salem and tied for first in Fayetteville and Greensboro.**
- Brought AT&T Digital LifeSM to Charlotte and Raleigh. Digital Life is an all-digital, fully integrated, wireless home management system, giving customers flexibility to manage their home from their smartphone, tablet or PC.
"While we are investing in our North Carolina networks to deliver the quality of advanced services our customers need and rely upon, we are also investing in people as part of our commitment to exceptional customer service," said Venessa Harrison, president, AT&T North Carolina. "We appreciate the opportunity to serve a state which welcomes these sorts of investments and look forward to welcoming the newest members of the AT&T family."
