AT&T Government Solutions Wins $5 Million Award from the Federal Trade Commission
AT&T Will Provide Managed Trusted IP Services (MTIPS) Under the U.S. General Services Administration Networx Universal Program; AT&T Synaptic Hosting(SM) and AT&T Internet Protect(R) Services Will Also Be Utilized
OAKTON, Va., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) Government Solutions today announced awards worth approximately $5 million, if all options are exercised, to provide AT&T Synaptic Hosting(SM), Managed Trusted IP Services (MTIPS) and AT&T Internet Protect® Service for the Federal Trade Commission as the independent agency's primary provider of communications services.
The MTIPS award was made under the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Networx Universal contract vehicle and has a term of eight years, which includes a one-year base with seven one-year options.
AT&T Synaptic Hosting(SM) is the company's next-generation, utility computing service with managed networking, security and storage for federal government agencies that leverages select Internet data centers. The IDCs, which act as diverse gateways to the AT&T network cloud, support large-scale computing and applications on demand via virtualized servers and deliver services across AT&T's IDC hosting infrastructure.
"Managing unexpected spikes in web site traffic volume and cyber attacks are key challenges for federal agencies," said Don Herring, senior vice president, AT&T Government Solutions, AT&T Global Services, Inc. "With AT&T's cloud-based approach to security, combined with AT&T Synaptic Hosting, AT&T can help deploy an MTIPS solution to proactively detect and diffuse security threats in our cloud before they go to the Federal Trade Commission while addressing increases in web site traffic volume."
Under the award's terms, AT&T will also provide MTIPS to enhance security for the Federal Trade Commission network. MTIPS is a service offered under the Networx Universal contract that allows federal agencies to order IP services that comply with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Memorandum 08-05. The OMB directive calls for implementation of the Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) Initiative, which requires agencies to reduce the number of connections to the public Internet and provide secure IP portals for agency traffic to and from the public Internet.
AT&T will use MTIPS to secure the Federal Trade Commission Internet traffic with services such as Intrusion Detection Services, Intrusion Protection Services, Incident Response, Managed Firewall Services and Anti-virus Management.
Last year, the GSA provided AT&T with formal notification that AT&T's MTIPS Certification & Accreditation (C&A) documentation conforms to GSA's requirements for the MTIPS product and is considered to be an approved service offering of the Networx contracts. Earlier in the year, AT&T also received formal notification from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) indicating AT&T's MTIPS solution meets all DHS requirements for operation of a Trusted Internet Connections Access Provider, certifying the company's TIC/MTIPS solution is fully compliant with OMB's TIC requirements.
AT&T's current pace in the deployment and certifications/approval of MTIPS will enable the Federal Trade Commission to implement MTIPS into their IP network infrastructure as part of the initial project.
AT&T Internet Protect Service, an intrusion notification application that offers advanced information regarding potential real-time network attacks while they are in their early stages, will provide the Federal Trade Commission with a first line of defense and an extra layer of protection to proactively fight viruses, worms, and distributed denial of service (DDoS). AT&T Internet Protect will provide the Federal Trade Commission with a predictive, proactive cyber attack alerting service, as well as detection and mitigation of DDoS attacks. The service also analyzes Internet traffic using heuristics and statistical models to predict and profile potential malicious activity.
Under the terms of a separate award, AT&T is currently managing deployment of a Wide Area Network (WAN) solution for the Federal Trade Commission, which is based on the state-of-the-art AT&T Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-enabled network, a fully managed, highly secure, scalable data network.
With more than 1100 employees based in Washington, DC and nine regional offices across the country, the Federal Trade Commission is responsible for the prevention of unfair competition and ensuring protection for consumers from unfair or deceptive acts or practices in the marketplace.
Contractual terms for AT&T Internet Protect and Synaptic Hosting awards were not disclosed.
