NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its focus on delivering an effortless customer experience, AT&T* today announced it is seeking applicants for nearly 200 positions throughout Tennessee including nearly 100 new jobs. AT&T is hiring full and part-time employees in customer support, retail and U-verse premise technician positions. The company plans to begin filling these positions immediately.
The announcement was made earlier today at AT&T's high-tech 5,400 square-foot retail store in Nashville at 1904 West End Avenue. The new store opened on Friday, July 26 and offers a unique way for customers to interact with and shop for smartphones, tablets, connected devices, and home products and services. The official grand opening is slated for Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 from 12 until 2 p.m.
"Like never before, Tennessee businesses and consumers are using more communications services like wireless and broadband for work and to stay connected with family and friends," said Speaker Harwell. "These jobs are in one of the fastest growing parts of the Tennessee economy and will help build critical communications infrastructure and provide customer support. These jobs will also provide opportunities to local residents as our economy continues to grow and as demand for wireless and other communications services increases."
In the first half of 2013, AT&T invested more than $175 million in its wireless and wired networks in Tennessee. The investments included deployment of new macro cell sites, small cells and Distributed Antenna Systems across the state as a part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP, a three-year investment plan announced last fall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. The company also expanded and enhanced its 4G LTE network, which provides ultra-fast mobile Internet speeds, and deployed new Wi-Fi hot spots.
The 2013 year-to-date network investment builds on the nearly $1.4 billion that AT&T has invested in its Tennessee wireless and wired networks from 2010 through 2012.
"As AT&T continues to invest in our network and expand our customer base in Tennessee, we're committed to providing excellent customer service," said Joelle Phillips, president of AT&T Tennessee. "We applaud Governor Haslam and the members of the Tennessee legislature who are working to create a business friendly environment where industries want to invest and create job opportunities for Tennesseans."
"The investment AT&T is making in their wireless and wired networks is essential to spurring Tennessee's economy and creating jobs," said Representative Gary Odom. "In our wireless world, mobile and broadband networks create economic opportunities for health care, manufacturing, education, transportation and public safety, and virtually every other economic section."
"Nashville has long had a reputation as an innovative and high-tech city," said Ralph Schulz, president & CEO, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. "This announcement today serves to underscore that we are open for business, investing in Nashville, hiring in Nashville and hiring across the state of Tennessee with the most modern wireless infrastructure to support our growing business community."
Full and part-time positions include competitive wages and benefits which may include tuition reimbursement, paid time off, medical/dental/vision health care benefits, discounts on AT&T products and services, life insurance, pre-tax flexible spending accounts and participation in a 401(k) plan with company matching.
AT&T currently employs more than 5,400 employees in Tennessee, and hired more than 450 people across the state in the first half of this year.
"Providing an extraordinary wireless experience is our top priority whether it's on our network or in our stores," said Chris Percy, vice president and general manager of AT&T Mobility. "The investment in our network and our new company owned store in West End are proof to our commitment to our customers and the local economy."
AT&T is one of the largest employers in America and the nation's largest private employer of full-time union employees. The company has set the standard for building jobs and investment based on a consumer-focused environment. With highly competitive wages and benefits, AT&T jobs are among the best in the U.S.
AT&T also actively recruits military veterans. The company has established a Military Talent Attraction team, which focuses on promoting AT&T's career opportunities to veterans and educating managers across AT&T on the benefits of hiring military veterans. The program has been recognized by Electronic Recruiting Exchange as the Best Military Talent Program, and AT&T is included in the G.I. Jobs 2013 Top Military Friendly Employers, our eighth year on that list.
Over the past five years, AT&T invested nearly $98 billion into operations across the U.S., more than any other public company. In a July 2012 report, the Progressive Policy Institute ranked AT&T No. 1 on its list of U.S. "Investment Heroes."
The Nashville West End store is led by Bryan Klamer, AT&T director of sales, Marcy Spirito, area retail sales manager and Reba Edmonds, retail store manager, along with 15 AT&T retail store employees, and three assistant store managers. The store will provide abundant parking with 54 spaces. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There are now 35 AT&T owned stores in Tennessee. AT&T's products and services are also available at a number of authorized retailers and national retail locations.
