Attorney Susan Budowski Launches Hope City United to Help Heal Survivors of Sex Trafficking
VENICE, Fla., Aug. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorney and Guardian ad Litem Susan Budowski is joining the movement to help put an end to one of the world's most horrifying industries – sex trafficking.
Non-profit Hope City United aims to develop a long-term recovery and rehabilitation campus and to bring more awareness to the tragic, ongoing human rights violation taking place in our own backyards.
According to the International Labour Organization, there are at least 20.9 million adults and children enslaved worldwide. Florida is one of the top destinations for sex trafficking in the United States. The $35 billion industry ranks just below drug trafficking. Studies report that nearly half of the children trafficked are barely 16 years old.
The sad statistic is that individuals are trafficked every day around the world. Thanks to the hard work of law enforcement officials and organizations around the world, however, many survivors are rescued from this tragic fate and given the opportunity to take back their lives.
The goals of Hope City United are two-fold; the first is to establish a long-term restoration campus for survivors of human trafficking. In Florida alone, there is a massive shortage of beds for survivors, and a crucial first step in the recovery process entails securing a safe space to call home for these survivors.
The other crucial objective of Hope City United lies in bringing widespread awareness to these heinous crimes and advocating for policy change when it comes to prosecuting the perpetrators of these acts. By shining a light on this important issue, Hope City United can help ensure that survivors go on to live happy, healthy, secure lives.
Hope City United was started in Orlando by a team of individuals dedicated to helping survivors of sex trafficking. Attorney Budowski as Chairman & CEO has allocated 10% of her law firm's profits to further Hope City United's goals of bringing more awareness and focus on restoration of survivors.
If you think you may know someone being trafficked or have a tip, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1 (888) 373-7888.
