Austin, Texas-based Customized Notebook Company Named One of Oprah's Favorite Things for 2014
AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- May Designs has been named one of Oprah's Favorite Things for 2014. The Austin, Texas-based paper design company specializes in customizable May Books, which are a featured product in the annual O Magazine: December Gift Guide.
"As a small company, we all wear a lot of hats and have worked really hard to get the word out about our little company. This is a huge step forward for us and we could not be more honored to be included in this year's holiday gift guide!" said founder and CEO, Mica May.
For the past two years, the company donated May Books to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. May Designs monogrammed hundreds of notebooks with the school's motto, "Life 101", and each student was able to pick out their favorite pattern. "We are so proud to be part of this initiative and are thrilled we got to be a small participant in the girls' joy while they were at the Academy," said May.
The 6-year-old company has 10 employees and has grown by leaps and bounds since its early days when the books were hand designed, bound and shipped by Mica May in her home studio.
May Designs prides itself in making every aspect of their paper design goods fully customizable - including fonts, cover patterns and inside page designs. The notebooks feature sewn binding, which makes them extra durable, and canvas covers that are resilient, durable and water-resistant.
May Designs also recently launched a new line of personalized holiday cards including photo cards, invitations and non-photo holiday cards. The 5x7 cards are printed using the finest digital quality printer on a variety of paper stocks ranging from Luxe White to Double Thick. Even their envelopes can be customized with a coordinating pattern to the card design.
ABOUT MAY DESIGNS
The idea for the May Designs notebook came about almost by accident when clients of Mica May's boutique design firm began taking notice of the signature notebooks that she brought along to all of her meetings. After enough clients requested their own custom books, a business plan was hatched, website secured and a new business took root.
In the past six years, the company has moved beyond notebooks into stationery, greeting cards and a brand new line of photo books that pull in Instagram, Facebook and desktop photos into beautiful canvas-bound books that will launch in the coming weeks.
