In the latest Automobile.com commissioned survey, respondents were asked how much they spend on insuring their vehicles. The results focused on the differences in price between Infiniti, Lexus and Acura.
LOS ANGELES, July 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Car insurance resource Automobile.com released the findings of their latest consumer survey comparing the cost to insure vehicles from the luxury arms of the "big three" Japanese automakers. For the purpose of this study, Infiniti, Lexus and Acura were examined.

The study found drivers of Infiniti vehicles paid the least for insurance each year at an average of $958.28. Next was Lexus drivers who reported paying an average of $981.30. Acura was determined to be the most costly of the three at an average of $1184.06, or 24% higher than Infiniti and 21% higher than Lexus.
Lexus, owned by the Toyota Motor Corporation, is currently Japan's top selling luxury automaker. Acura is owned by the Honda Motor Company and Infiniti is owned by the Nissan Motor Company.
"It was interesting to compare this study with another recent survey we commissioned that covered the domestic big three automakers," Automobile.com columnist Andrew Evans said. "While the American brands were virtually identical, we did see a statistically significant disparity in this new survey."
Evans said policyholder age was among the biggest differences when examining possible reasons for the disparity.
"The average Lexus respondent was approximately eight years older than the Acura and Infiniti respondents," Evans said. "This is surprising because it didn't seem to translate into the policy costs overwhelmingly as Acura was shown to be the most expensive on average. This suggests the overall value of the vehicles or depreciation factors may be a stronger determinant."
