Avant Chamber Ballet Announces 2016-2017 Season
Highlights include welcoming internationally acclaimed dancer Saki Ota at the world premieres of Katie Cooper's A Ballet Christmas Carol and the continuation of the groundbreaking Women's Choreography Project.
DALLAS, March 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Avant Chamber Ballet's artistic director Katie Cooper and music director David Cooper announced the company's 2016-2017 season today featuring four productions throughout the Metroplex including extended dates at the Dallas City Performance Hall.
Avant Chamber Ballet (ACB) will be welcoming Ms. Saki Ota from Japan, who achieved national recognition for her performances at the Osaka Ballet Competition where she placed two years in a row for her achievements in the Raymond Variation, one of the most complex combinations of dance routines in ballet. She has also performed the Nutcracker Suite in Chicago at Joffrey
Ballet, along Don Quioxte and in several successful productions, ballet festivals and theatres in Japan, the U.S. and Europe.
The season opens with the return of Nutcracker: Short and Suite in Southlake, TX at White's Chapel presented by Apex Arts League. Finishing the holiday season ACB will premiere a completely new full-length holiday production- A Ballet Christmas Carol.
In February, ACB will restage Katie Cooper's smash-hit Alice in Wonderland. April closes the season with the mixed repertoire program Rhythm and Romance. On the program will be George Balanchine's Walpurgisnacht Ballet – the biggest Balanchine ballet ACB has done to this point with 25 dancers. Part of this performance will include the third year of Women's Choreography Project. Women's Choreography Project gives emerging female choreographers a chance for their work to performed with live music and by professional dancers. To close, the program Katie Cooper will premiere her new ballet The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires to Piazzolla's fiery and sensual music.
