After doing some research and looking at his problem from a medical expert's perspective, he discovered the source of his problem. "Once I realized that the pain only happened when riding indoors, never outdoors, even on the same bike, I put things together," explains Dr. Coor.
"The root cause was restricted lateral movement of my bike's rear wheel. When riding outdoors it's natural for the rear wheel to move from side-to-side with each pedal stroke, especially when standing or powering up, allowing the cyclist's hips and lower back muscles to move freely. Riding inside, on my fixed rear-wheel trainer with no sideways movement, my hips were locked into an unnatural position, causing stress and increasing pain."
