The AVT developed Medbox™ Rx Prescription Dispensing System was on display, and a company spokesperson described how the process works.

The story stated that when a customer drops off their prescription at the pharmacy, the pharmacist will ask if they want to pick up their medicine at the counter or at the automated, self-serve system. If the customer opts to pick up their prescription at their convenience from the Medbox™ Rx system, the pharmacist will place the medicine in one of 200 individual lock boxes. The customer will access the lock box by swiping their special identification card and passing a fingerprint recognition scan.

AVT developed the system in partnership with Medbox, and it is the world's first medical dispensing system to feature a patented biometric fingerprint recognition program, which assures patient identity and provides military grade security. The system also takes a photograph of each person conducting a transaction, and provides an unalterable record of every operation.

AVT is also developing other automated retailing systems that use biometric security systems to increase safety, enhance consumer and merchant confidence, and reduce fraud.
