Award-Winning Creative Talent to Appear at Next Thursday's Media Forum
NEW YORK, March 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Betty Bastidas, the photographer and filmmaker at the helm of the 2013 HBO/NALIP Documentary Filmmaker Award-winning production, DreamTown; Kristina Wong, highly acclaimed solo theater performer, artist, actor, and cultural commentator named "One of the Seven Funniest Eco-Comedians" by Mother Nature Network; and Marshall Davis Jones, the spoken-word poet who amassed over a million video views across social media and has been featured on TEDx, BBC World Services, and TV One's Verses and Flow will present excerpts of their original work as part of the Emerging Voices Showcase at the 14th Annual Multicultural Media Forum next Thursday, March 20th, at the Edison Ballroom in New York City.
Following the Showcase, Marlene Braga, Executive Producer, Woman on the Verge, will moderate a panel featuring the three performers as well as Valerie Chow, Executive Producer/Partner, Thirsty Tiger Television, who will be screening a preview of her new show, I'm Asian American and…, earlier in the day. The panel will focus on the demand for and creation of original content for today's culturally diverse and technologically fluent media consumers.
These creative trendsetters will perform for an audience of over 300 media executives as part of the Multicultural Media Forum's broad, full-day agenda focused on the impact of America's cultural diversity, current and future demographic shifts, new media technologies, and new consumer behavior on the business of creating, distributing, and monetizing media in America.
One key theme of the Forum is the idea that our nation's identity is being shaped by "transculturalism," the phenomenon that American culture is neither static nor one-directional, but rather multidirectional, fluid, and constantly in flux as it is influenced by the interplay of cultures and worldviews that surround us.
Adriana Waterston, SVP, Marketing & Business Development at Horowitz Associates explains, "These up-and-coming artists are creating amazing content shaped and inspired by their cultural backgrounds and transcultural milieu. They represent the America's next generation of storytellers, serving up content that's in demand among America's next generation of viewers and media consumers. We are excited to showcase these talented trendsetters at the Forum—and follow what are sure to be amazing future trajectories for their budding careers."
The event is almost sold out, but limited seats are still available for attendees and press.
