Axam DTE Announces "Thirteen Moments and More" Dance Concert
Innovative Company of Dancers-Choreographers Triggers the Senses and Engages Audiences With Captivating Stories About Relationships and Life
ATLANTA, July 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Axam Dance Theatre Experience (Axam DTE), a collaborative professional dance company based in Atlanta, will present "Thirteen Moments and More" — a dance concert that combines movement with music, photography and the spoken word to explore the life, healing and love found in everyday relationships. The event will take place Aug. 1-4, 2013, at the Fulton County Arts & Culture Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road SW, Atlanta, GA 30331.
"Thirteen Moments and More" tells a series of stories about relationships through dance. Each story is inspired by an image from the dance photography book Thirteen Moments, by Dawn Axam and Shoccara Marcus, and expresses the meaning of the image from the choreographer's perspective. As the stories unfold, many aspects of relationships are revealed — from the twists and turns they take to how they can be a source of tremendous strength.
Having so many choreographers represented in one show, by one dance company, is unique. "Our company is different from others in that our dancers are also our choreographers," said Dawn Axam, founder and artistic director of Axam DTE. "We want to provide different viewpoints so that members of the audience can connect not only with the choreographer's view of an experience, but also with their own thoughts and emotions." Axam believes dance is a force that can create awareness, inform and educate, bridge the gaps among cultures and generations, and help promote healing in various ways.
"Thirteen Moments and More" is an expanded, encore performance of "Thirteen Moments," which Axam DTE first presented during the final night of National Dance Week performances on April 28.
A sneak preview of "Thirteen Moments and More" and an artists' talk will take place on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. Sneak-preview tickets are $10 per person.
Full performances will be held on Friday, Aug. 2 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 3 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. Full-performance tickets are $20 per person in advance, or $25 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Sisters by Choice, a Georgia-based group that helps families impacted by breast cancer.
