AXELLA and UC-CARE Announce the Navigo™ and SmartBx™ Systems New cutting edge vision for prostate MRI fusion biopsy
NEW YORK, Sept. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The most advanced and accurate way to perform a prostate biopsy.
Navigo™ fuses previously captured prostate MRI images with live TRUS (transrectal ultrasound) images while the ultrasound transducer is inserted during the biopsy. The radiologists, urologists and pathologists work in collaboration using the Navigo MRI fusion 3D system with the Smart BX system, the most technologically advanced prostate biopsy system available.
WESTMED was the first medical practice in the Unites States to purchase the Navigo™, a revolutionary device that allows physicians to image, plan, place and record prostate biopsy samples in high resolution 3D. "It is a refinement and extension of already accepted and standard MRI fusion diagnostic techniques," adds Dr. Steven Meixler, co-medical director, WESTMED Medical Group.
Dr. Judd Boczko explains that the Navigo™ is "the most advanced MRI fusion device and better suited for today's prostate cancer environment than any alternative MRI fusion device." The Navigo™ allows the fusion of past and present biopsy procedures and is therefore a powerful tool for executing a follow-up biopsy in men undergoing active surveillance. Another advantage of the Navigo over other systems is it allows the 3D modeling of the prostate and localization of a cancer even without an MRI, thus allowing accurate pinpoint localization of prostate cancer in every patient undergoing a biopsy.
Dr. John Valvo, a urologist at Rochester General Hospital, another early adopter of the Navigo system, explains the advantages the Navigo and Smart Bx offer. "With their ease of use and precision performance, this is a powerful clinical tool every urologist should employ in battling prostate cancer."
SmartBx™Prostate Biopsy System- is a biopsy core preservation and management system that is designed to seamlessly integrate into the TRUS biopsy procedure and contribute to a higher cancer detection rate and cancer management, especially for the active surveillance process.
By using it's unique technology the SmartBx™ allows for an easy download of each single biopsy core, in a straight alignment and accurate orientation, and keeps this throughout the entire Path-lab processing up to the final glass slide viewed by the pathologist. From the enclosed picture showing specimens ready for slicing it can be seen that the Smart Bx™ keeps the specimen as a single, un-broken or distorted tissue and thereby allows for better processing and enhanced cancer diagnosis. The findings from the Path-lab are integrated in the Navigo™ system to allow a urologist to know to the mm where a cancer is located within the prostate. This is the only system that allows this kind of high accuracy prostate cancer management.
