Bachmann Plan to Slash Veterans' Funding, Short-Sighted and Dangerous
WASHINGTON, Jan. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann's plan to radically cut veterans' health care and benefits by $4.5 billion is being condemned by Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Paralyzed Veterans of America National President, Bill Lawson stated:
"Congresswoman Bachmann's plan is short-sighted, dangerous and an insult to the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms — including the freedom of speech that we all enjoy. We hope that the leadership in Congress will disassociate themselves from these radical views that are not supported by the majority of the American public. We urge all members of Congress to fully support efforts to provide sufficient funding for our troops and veterans."
Notes to editor:
Sixty-four years ago, Paralyzed Veterans of America was founded by a band of spinal cord injured service members who returned home from World War II to a grateful nation, but also to a world with few solutions to the challenges they faced. These veterans from the "Greatest Generation" made a decision not just to live, but to live with dignity as contributors to society. They created an organization, dedicated to veterans' service, medical research and civil rights for people with disabilities. And for more than six decades, Paralyzed Veterans of America and its 34 chapters have been working to create an America where all veterans, and people with disabilities, and their families, have everything they need to thrive.
