BALTIMORE, Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Thirteen Baltimore companies were honored today by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake as winners of the 2011 Mayor's Business Recognition Awards for community service by members of the private sector.

The awards for outstanding corporate leadership, commitment to community and dedication to improving the quality of life in Baltimore City were presented by the mayor to winners during luncheon ceremonies at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.

The annual awards event is presented by the Greater Baltimore Committee and the Baltimore Development Corporation.

"It is a tremendous honor for me to highlight and recognize these civic-minded businesses that have not only excelled in their own fields but have also contributed back to the community," said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. "Their commitments help to ensure that Baltimore is the center of a strong and vibrant society where everyone contributes and plays a role in growing our city."

The 2011 Mayor's Business Recognition Award winners are:

• Arris, a Design Studio, Inc., for its restART with ART fundraiser that benefits The Baltimore Station, helping hundreds of men transition from poverty, substance abuse and homelessness to self sufficiency.
• BB&T, for its role as lead sponsor of the Festival of Trees to benefit Kennedy Krieger Institute. In 2010, for the first time, the Festival's proceeds exceeded $1 million.
• Constellation Energy, for its contributions to Baltimore City and its support of charitable organizations through a wide range of programs, activities, donations and grants to educational, environmental and community organizations.
• Dunlap & Son Roofing, Inc., for training and employing most of its personnel from the prison system and halfway houses in the Baltimore City area in order to help them become productive citizens and contribute to society.
• Heery International, Inc., for its Heery from the Heart program, a month-long program of service to Susanna Wesley House; a transitional housing facility for women.
• Kaydon Ring & Seal, for organizing and hosting a golf outing sponsored by its nationwide supplier and vender base in support of Paul's Place, serving the needy and improving the quality of life in the Washington Village/Pigtown community.
• KPMG LLP, for employee volunteer work supporting various organizations, including the Maryland Food Bank, Catholic Charities, Our Daily Bread, Red House Run Elementary School and John Eager Howard Recreation Center.
• McGladrey, for its Community Service Initiative, which promotes employee-driven volunteerism and donates office time for employee days of service that have benefited the Salvation Army, Maryland Food Bank, Living Classrooms, and numerous other  community and non-profit organizations.
• Northrop Grumman Corporation, for more than two decades of support for Baltimore City Public Schools and promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Nearly 100 students from 20 different Baltimore City high schools have benefited from being mentored by Northrop Grumman employees.
• PricewaterhouseCoopers, for its community service, including its work with Benjamin Franklin High School to aid in its turnaround from high truancy, low attendance and low test scores to a more productive and effective education experience. In the past year alone, 260 PwC volunteers devoted over 2,000 hours to the Baltimore community.
• SC&H Group, LLC, for its support of The Baltimore Station by cooking dinners, spending time with veterans, helping them develop needed job skills and improving The Baltimore Station's technology network.
• Southern Management Corporation, for its annual Spruce Up Our Schools Program, improving the physical plant as well as creating a better learning environment for Baltimore City students.
• Wells Fargo Bank, for its partnership with the Robert C. Marshall Recreation Center and the adjoining Judy Center at Furman L. Templeton Charter School to help make the center and the school safe, welcoming and positive environments.
