Banfield Foundation® Meets $1 Million Milestone
Banfield Foundation Has Granted More than $1 Million to 83 Nonprofit Organizations Since its Launch in September 2015
PORTLAND, Ore., May 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Banfield Foundation®, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, announced today that it has awarded more than $1 million since it launched in September 2015—in just seven months, the foundation has granted financial support to 83 nonprofit organizations committed to providing much needed care and resources for pets and the people who love them. The majority of funding was provided through the foundation's Pet Advocacy and Veterinary Assistance grants—both programs fund nonprofit partners and programs aimed at helping keep pets with their families and supporting struggling pet owners in covering the cost of preventive and emergency medical care as well as medications.
Since its inception, the foundation has provided grants to organizations in 29 states as well as Washington, D.C.—in March, the foundation made its first ever grants to nonprofits in Michigan and Wisconsin. Other notable grants include the foundation's largest—and inaugural—grant of $200,000 to the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF), in support of its Our Oath in Action® initiative, a program that gives veterinarians, technicians, assistants and staff members the opportunity to reach out and connect to the animal-loving public outside of the veterinary hospital. The inaugural donation demonstrated the Banfield Foundation's goal of raising awareness for the importance of preventive care.
"I am so proud that the Banfield Foundation has made such a tremendous impact well ahead of our first anniversary. This work would not have been possible if it wasn't for the caring Banfield associates, clients and pet owners around the country who have given generously to the foundation over the past seven months," said Marta Monetti, President and Chairman of the Banfield Foundation Board of Directors. "I am also incredibly proud of the impact this organization has had on local communities—from keeping military veterans and their service pets together to providing preventive care to pets of homebound seniors—the grants have had a powerful impact on pets and the people who love them."
The Banfield Foundation was established by Banfield Pet Hospital in May 2015. While it is a separate nonprofit entity, the Banfield Foundation shares a similar mission and vision with Banfield Pet Hospital in its focus of improving the well-being of pets, communities and the science of veterinary medicine. Through grants and service programs, the Banfield Foundation focuses on elevating the power of the pet-human bond, strengthening the pet welfare community, providing disaster relief for pets and advancing the science of veterinary medicine through fostering innovation and education.
