DAVIE, Fla., Feb. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bankers Healthcare Group, a leading provider of financing solutions for healthcare professionals, recently donated more than 150 pieces of furniture valued at $35,000 to Food for the Poor, an international relief and development organization based in Broward County, South Florida.
BHG recently moved its corporate headquarters from Southwest Ranches to Davie, Florida. The company had extra furniture that was not going to be moved to the new office building, including desks, large tables, chairs and white boards.
The idea to donate these items came from BHG Sr. Project Manager Mary Ann Malinconico, a Food for the Poor supporter of many years. "We learned that Food for the Poor was in need of schoolroom furniture and we knew that the items in our inventory would be a perfect fit," said Malinconico.
The furniture will soon be shipped to Jamaica where it will be repurposed in schools and orphanages supported by Food for the Poor.
"Through Food for the Poor, we were able to take our seemingly everyday items and pass them on to communities that could really benefit from them," said Bob Castro, president and co-founder of BHG. "BHG is truly grateful for the opportunity to support Food for the Poor and contribute to their global impact. We hope Jamaican schools and orphanages will be able to get good use out of this furniture."
Food For The Poor has supplied housing, food and water to people in 17 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America for more than thirty years.
"Once these items are delivered to our warehouse, they are sorted and shipped to where the need is greatest as quickly as possible," said Food for the Poor President/CEO Robin Mahfood. "The office furniture we received from Bankers Healthcare Group is a perfect example of how something that was once used in one capacity can be reused to serve a new purpose."
