Baptist Health System Customer Utilization of the ER Texting Service Reaches New Levels
MIAMI, Dec. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --ER Texting, a provider of turnkey text message services to the healthcare industry, announced that Baptist Health System (BHS) customer usage of the ER Texting service has reached some of the highest utilization levels ever.
Since November 2011, Birmingham and North Central Alabama residents have been accessing wait times for all four BHS ERs by simply texting their zip code to 4ER411 (437411). Wait times for all hospitals are delivered instantly. In addition to posting ER wait times, BHS also provides information for its 40 Baptist Health Centers that accept walk-in patients, providing additional options for lower acuity patients.
With more than 5,000 text inquiries made during the initial launch, the service quickly established itself as a tool that consumers could conveniently access via their cell phones. But what's more impressive is the continued utilization of the service, which has averaged nearly 2,000 monthly customer text inquiries in nine months (ending in September 2012).
"The results speak to the importance of meeting customers in the mobile space," said Keith Parrott, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officerat Baptist Health System. "In today's mobile society, customers are accustomed to making instantaneous decisions, which can include a non-critical visit to the ER."
Providing ER wait times improves patient satisfaction scores; delivers greater hospital transparency; provides for better load balancing and increased efficiency and ultimately increases ER visits. Today's patients are demanding more and more healthcare related information. Posting ER wait times aligns with consumers' expectations and is a determining factor when selecting a hospital for emergency care.
